Introduction to Yoshinogari Site
The Yayoi period, spanning from the 5th century BC to the 3rd century AD, marks the beginning of rice cultivation culture in Japan and the establishment of sedentary culture, serving as the foundation of Japanese culture.
Among the Yayoi period archaeological sites, the Yoshinogari Site is the largest in Japan, covering three towns and villages in Saga Prefecture. It provides a comprehensive view of the central settlements of “Kuni” during the Yayoi period and offers insight into the changes over 700 years of the Yayoi period. This site is extremely valuable for unraveling the ancient history of Japan, gathering crucial materials and information.
The park is divided into four zones: the Entrance Zone, the Ancient Forest Zone, the Moat-Enclosed Village Zone, and the Ancient Field Zone. In the Entrance Zone, visitors can learn various information related to the use of the Yoshinogari Historical Park. The Ancient Forest Zone replicates forests close to those of the Yayoi period. In the Moat-Enclosed Village Zone, visitors can tour buildings from the Yayoi period such as the main festival hall and watchtowers, experience the life and culture of the Yayoi people, and view artifacts in the attached exhibition room. The Ancient Field Zone offers large playground equipment resembling watchtowers among vast lawns, where visitors can enjoy physical activities.
