Introduction to Kumamoto City Zoological and Botanical Gardens

The Kumamoto City Zoological and Botanical Gardens are located near the city center, by the shores of the oasis for the citizens, Lake Ezu.
Covering a total area of 24.5 hectares, the park is home to about 120 species and 600 animals, as well as approximately 800 species and 50,000 plants, soothing the hearts of its visitors.
Upon entering the main entrance of the zoo, you are first greeted by the friendly monkeys. As you venture further, you will encounter many animals popular with children, such as tigers, elephants, and giraffes.

Notices ●Announcements for calling or gathering via the park’s public address system are not available.

●Do not feed the animals.
●Do not tap on the glass of enclosures containing animals.
●Do not collect insects or plants, or break branches within the park.
●Bringing toys like balls, frisbees, badminton, jump ropes, roller skates, or skateboards, or riding bicycles is not allowed in the park.
●Please be considerate of others when using the lawn and other areas.
●Please cooperate in keeping the park clean by disposing of trash properly.
●The entire premises have been designated as non-smoking since April 1, 2021 (Reiwa 3).

The Animal Zone

The “Touch Ai Land” animal interaction area, which opened in April 2005, features a play experience zone and an interaction experience zone, both themed after the American West.

The Plant Zone

The Plant Zone features Japanese gardens and arboretums, allowing visitors to enjoy the beauty of flowers through the changing seasons.
At the “Flower Rest Area,” located at the front of the Plant Zone, there are facilities like a large greenhouse and a room for Western orchids, showcasing tropical and subtropical plants.
This enables visitors to engage with flowers and greenery all year round.

The Amusement Park Zone

The amusement park zone is equipped with various attractions designed for visitors of all ages.
It features both large and small rides, offering entertainment options that cater to families, young children, and the elderly alike.
