Introduction to Sakuranobaba Jousaien
Josaien, located at the foot of Kumamoto Castle, one of Japan’s three famous castles, and situated in Sakura no Baba, was created based on the concept of “Broadcasting the food culture, history, and traditions of the region from Kumamoto Castle, a symbol of Kumamoto, to enhance the appeal of the castle and the castle town.”
As a tourist facility born from this concept, Sakura no Baba Josaien aims to enrich visitors’ experience.
In its 23 shops along Sakura Komichi, you can encounter Kumamoto’s rich food culture and special products, while the Kumamoto Castle Museum Wakuwakuza offers a new and exciting experience where you can immerse yourself in the history and culture of the Higo 540,000 koku (a unit of volume).

The Kumamoto Castle Museum Wakuwakuza is an entertainment space where you can see, listen, touch, and experience emotions.
It’s a discovery zone of history and culture that makes Kumamoto Castle even more enjoyable.

Visitors can travel back in time and through the “Tale of Kumamoto Then and Now” exhibit, they can see, hear, and touch the region’s history.
Additionally, visitors have the opportunity to try on traditional Edo-period kimonos.

Information Center
The Comprehensive Tourist Information Center, located at the south entrance of Josaien, is a facility that provides various tourist information about Kumamoto City and the surrounding prefecture.
Equipped with a tourist brochure corner and a staffed information desk, it offers local information on Kumamoto’s tourist spots, recommended events for each season, accommodations, transportation, and more.
The center also supports foreign languages, including English, and provides brochures and maps in four languages (Japanese, English, Korean, and Chinese). Feel free to stop by.
