【Nagasaki Peace Park】Sightseeing spots in Nagasaki

Introduction to Nagasaki Peace Park

Located on a small hill to the north of the Atomic Bomb Hypocenter Park, the Peace Park was created with a pledge never to repeat the tragic wars and with a wish for eternal peace in the world.
The Peace Statue, symbolizing the citizens of Nagasaki’s wish for peace, embodies God’s love and Buddha’s compassion.
Its right hand pointing to the sky represents “the threat of the atomic bomb,” the left hand stretched out horizontally signifies “peace,” and the lightly closed eyes pray for “the repose of the souls of the atomic bomb victims.”
Furthermore, in a corner of the Peace Park, in front of the Peace Statue, “The Fountain of Peace” was constructed with donations collected in the hope of offering water to the spirits of those who suffered agonizing burns throughout their bodies due to the atomic bomb.
It was built to pray for their repose and to express the wish for world peace and the abolition of nuclear weapons.
